22-Week Bump Alert!

Would you believe this dress cost $2.99?? Here we are after Rachel Mixon's wedding, still all dressed up. Tex is confused by our swankiness.

Our Last Family Shot without Baby!

It's crazy to think that (Lord willing) this will be the last Christmas with just the three of us!

Check our family photos link to the right for more pictures of our Christmas!

Eastern Time: It's Official! Merry Christmas!!!

I wish we had snow for this Christmas in Virginia. But we do have ham biscuits, so that's something to be thankful for! Tonight we watched a great documentary, The Star of Bethlehem, with my family. Rob and I have been able to watch the presentation in person several times, and every time it gives me chills! It deals with the question of what was the star that the Magi followed, announcing Christ's birth. There's a great site here, and I'd highly recommend the video if you can't see Rick Larson in person.

It's amazing to think that there is a God who created everything, and put each star in it's place. It makes me feel very small, and yet somehow very important that God knows the number of hairs on my head. This God already knows the child who will be with us next Christmas! Wow.

Isaiah 40:26- 26 Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

Merry Christmas everyone!!

Little Leaps!

FINALLY. I am feeling movement! I felt like it took forever, but once I felt the first little leap, now I feel them all the time. Bo is on the move! It's such a strange feeling to have some little person inside you, shifting around. But it definitely makes this whole thing feel more real. Plus, I'm finally getting a real belly--it's round and solid! I can feel the difference when I'm bending over or getting out of bed. And just think--four months to go. I can only imagine how that's going to be! Wow.

I'll post pictures soon, now that Rob is finally here. I wanted to have someone take some Christmas shots of our little family--Rob, me, Bo, and Tex. And also my parents and Geoff! It's our first Christmas without Sydney, and it sure is quiet without her growling.

New Old Pics!

My friend Eric and I had a great skating adventure the day before my marathon. I posted some of the pics of our downtown Houston escapade on our photo blog. I think I was about three months pregnant at the time. Here's a nice little preview:
I'll be posting some shortly of my expanding baby bump. Oh, yes, it's expanding.

Reviews of Great Things You Probably Don't Need!

This is a great book that my friend Katy H recommended today. It's all about how to find the best quality baby things for the buck. It claims to save you $2000 or so in the first year (compared to the $6000 average people spend on baby's first year--yikes) by letting you know what you really need, where to splurge, where to scrimp, and what you DON'T need. I really want to not be overloaded with "stuff" and have the essentials--though that differs person to person. I'm hoping to save us money by buying used when I can, accepting hand-me-downs gratefully, and not going nuts. I don't want to be a pack-rat or too materialistic, but it can be hard when all this stuff is so cute and fun! Good thing I don't have to worry about temptation since we're on a tight budget!

I'm also LOVING the new Mindy Smith Christmas album. It's mostly originals, but those classics she tackles are both unique and also not so desperately far from the familiar melodies. There's also a great duet featuring Thad Cockrell, a wonderful singer-songwriter who is both highly underrated and unknown. The NY Times called the album the "year's prettiest Christmas album" and says that when she sings " 'Jesus has come to save us from all sin,'...it really does sound like good news." Mindy's other albums are also fantastic--soulful acoustic splendor.

And for one last plug to buy stuff (from the girl who just said she didn't want to be materialistic...). If you're not a Borders Rewards member, you need to get one of those cards. My CD was $10 and I have a 30% off coupon for the book. You don't have to buy anything--they send these coupons weekly! I can't help but love Borders after working in three different Borders cafes across the country. Sigh. I miss my lattes.

Mom and I Make Cookies with Bo!

I'm in Richmond right now visiting the 'rents and missing Rob. Mom and I made cookies, as usual, and this year actually made less of a mess. The full pictures are on our other blog (see link to the right of "Our Family Photos") but here are a few. Oh, and Bo is the St. Clair pet name for the Baby Oliphant currently residing in me.

We know they're good because we taste them.
Our pretty cookies! Mine are Texas themed this year.
My favorite photo face.
Icing makes a very natural and tasty lipstick.

Wednesday=Linkday!

Here are a few links, since I've been too busy (or boring) to post much.

This is an article about the so-called "doula craze." Doulas are basically women's advocates and supporters during labor. The article mostly discusses the cost and the kinds of interactions that can happen in a hospital setting between doulas and nurses.

Here is a really funny link to bizarre baby gifts. None overlap with my expensive baby gifts post, as these are just weird. Thanks to Kelly C. for sending me this! This might be my favorite--children as wall art.

Sonogram!

Some of you know the story about how I was supposed to get my sonogram two weeks ago, arrived to find they didn't take credit card, and had a mini-meltdown that I'll blame on pregnancy hormones. Well, Rob and I got to go yesterday and it was worth the wait! There really is a little baby in there! And no, we did not find out the gender, so most of these shots stay above the nether regions. But baby does have good strong legs (hopefully Rob's legs and not mine) and everything looked good and healthy! Baby weighs 1/2 a pound and the due date is still the very end of April or the first of May.

Our tech was nice enough to label this one. The baby was lying on his/her back with his/her face upward. Wow--that's a baby!
I got a little creeped out because it's so skull-like, but this is baby's little face.
This one looks better if you can get it bigger--to the right are the baby's tiny toes!

Here's a different angle of head and body.
I think this one is basically the same as the first, only without the head and body labels.
