We Made It!

Sawyer, Ginny and I finally made it to Virginia. Yes, we drove. Somehow it went very quickly and was not disastrous--though I hate to say that before the car trip back with my Mom in case I curse it.

We stopped in Beaumont on the way out to visit Krista, Jackson, Ila, and Charlotte and borrowed a DVD player for Saw. Then it was on to Montgomery, which took us until midnight. Bass Pro Shops are a great place to stop on a road trip to let your child run off steam, just so you know. We had a minor incident with Sawyer's poop, but other than that it was okay. He was really straining and couldn't poop in his seat, but after stopping to let him stand up (and getting kicked out of a gas station), we were all dandy. Except that, since we got kicked out of the gas station, I changed him in the car, and then forgot to throw out the diaper. So...we rode for three more hours with a really rank poopy diaper in the car. Every now and then I'd accidentally kick the bag at my feet and it would waft through the car. Gross! Ginny's bro Russ offered his home that night, and we had a fun time.

In the morning, we set off for Greensboro. We had a nice long stop at a Chick-Fil-A and the playground at Joe's Crab Shack (I bought a shirt out of guilt since we weren't eating there), and made it to Greensboro to hang out with Sandy, then got some great time with Heather (and kiddos Jonathon and Maggie) and Jenny this morning. Plus Elizabeth's Pizza on the way out. We just barely decided not to stop at Cheesecakes by Alex. I'm still regretting that decision.

Today was a short trip up to VA, and we had lots of hilarity in the car as we were all tired of being in it. I taught Sawyer that animal crackers are just as fun to throw as eat, which I'm sure I'll regret the next time we're seated at the dinner table. But it was entertaining in the car. We also taught him a mad scientist laugh, and he learned his first phrase: "Where are you?" I'm pretty sure he doesn't know what it means. Ginny struggled with my seatbelt the whole trip, and I think I'm going to buy her a personal seatbelt that she can travel with for Christmas just to spare some of the pain and suffering. I tried unsuccessfully to teach Saw to say "bad Gigi," but have high hopes for the future.

Now Saw and I are in VA with my 'rents and I'm missing Rob, but it's fun to see my childhood home, my fam, and FALL LEAVES! Pictures soon to follow.

  1. I'm guessing it's related to the poop, but why/how were you kicked out of the gas station? Inquiring minds would like to know.

  2. Okay, we don't know what happened. All the sudden, they turned out the lights and told us they were closed. It was 8:44, so we were a little confused. But it was kind of scary anyway, so we just left. In the dark.
